When you are braking to stop for a red light or stop sign, do you find yourself wondering if the car behind you really sees that your brake light is on or are they to busy chatting and texting on their cell phones. I know I find myself questioning this all the time especially since one of my friends got hit in this exact situation. Luckily he was not hurt but it did total his 1985 Goldwing. These concerns for your safety can be minimized by adding a set of Hyper Lights to your bike. Don't worry, these are not some big ugly lights that hang off your bike and make it look uncool, matter of fact, most people won't even notice you have them, until they ride behind you that is. There are a variety of light kits available and some even provide turn signal functions along with running lights and brake lights. While these lights are small they are very powerful and bright even in the strong sunlight and being LED they do not use much power. The two light kit allows you to mount them in various places on the rear of your bike. The most common place these are put is by the license plate. A separate license plate bracket can be purchased that mounts one light on each side of your plate. Web Bike World has reviewed this product and strongly recommends it as a inexpensive safety accessories for all street motorcycles and scooters.
The Premier Cycle Accessory passenger backrest is designed to add all the comfort, safety and styling that is expected from a PCA product. The new design has raised the backrest pad slightly to increase back support, for a more comfortable ride. The backrest pad has twice the padding as the competitor which ensures passenger comfort over the long haul. The backrest bar is made from 1-1/2'' x 1/4'' thick steel with dual bends for increased strength and powder coated with a durable black textured finish.
Q: Do you make a passenger backrest for every bike?
A: Unfortunately due to the cost of development and tooling we only make the passenger backrest for the Honda ST1300, Yamaha FJR1300 and the Kawasaki Concours 1400.
Q: Can I purchase the passenger backrest and bolt it directly to my bike?
A: For safety and security purposes our backrests will only bolt to luggage racks or backrest plates specifically designed for these bikes.
Q: Is the passenger backrest adjustable?
A: This depends on the bike that is chosen. The Kawasaki Concours has adjustability forwards and aft, while the FJR 1300 and the ST1300 are in a fixed position and do not offer any forwards and aft movement. When we redesigned our backrest, we eliminated the up and down adjustability and instead raised the backrest pad slightly to increase support and comfort. Many hours of development have been put in to ensure that the height and angle of the backrest bar and pad will accommodate a vast majority of passengers.
Q: Do I have to purchase an additional top case rack if I want to install a Givi top case onto my bike?
A: If you are considering the use of a Givi Monokey top case box at times, then Premier Cycle offers an alternative top case Luggage Rack for the ST1300, FJR1300 and Concours 1400. This rack would allow you to mount either a Givi Monokey top case to the rack or our Passenger Backrest. If this setup will best fit your needs then you would want to order our Luggage Rack with the Backrest Option. You would also need to order our Top Case Mounting Hardware Kit to mount the top case to the Luggage Rack.
Q: Can I install a top case with my backrest installed?
A: Due to the limited amount of space available on the rack it is not possible to safely mount the passenger backrest with the top case installed. If using a Givi Monokey top case there is a padded backrest available that can be attached directly to the top case.
Q: Do I have to remove the backrest rack in order to remove the backrest before I install my top case?
A: No, the passenger backrest can be removed without removing the rack from the bike. It takes less then 5 minutes to mount or remove the passenger backrest.
Q: Is the backrest and rack difficult to install and are there special tools required?
A: The backrest and rack can be installed in minutes using the factory mounting hardware. Mounting does not require any special tools and most times the OEM tool kit that came with your bike can be used.
Q: Why would I want your passenger backrest when I can put a Givi top case on the bike and purchase the backrest pad for the top case?
A: When the extra storage space provided by the top case is required for a ride the Givi backrest pad is better than nothing, but it does not and cannot provide the comfort level of our passenger backrest. There are many differences in the two backrest systems. Our backrest offers a larger surface area for support and is contoured to hold the passenger from sliding left to right. This gives the passenger a much more secure feeling while riding. Due to the top case design, the top case backrest has to be mounted on the top half of the top case above the hinges. This makes the backrest very high on the bike and for all but a very few really tall passengers this puts the backrest pad right into the shoulder blades which is very uncomfortable. Our backrest pads sits much lower on the bike and since ours is a much larger pad it provides more lower and mid back support. The third reason our backrests are superior is the mounting position of the backrest. When a top case is mounted on a bike, the manufacturers make it so that top case is mounted as far forwards as possible so the weight of the the case and the load in it does not hang off the back of the bike. This of course takes weight off the front wheel of the bike and could lead to an accident. This is good from a safety factor but not great for rider and passenger comfort. By placing the top case this far forward, this lessens the space between the passenger and rider. Then you add a 2-1/2" to 3-1/2" thick passenger backrest in front of the top case, this lessens the space even more. This makes it so the passenger is sitting up very vertical and the distance between the rider and passenger gets even smaller. This leads to a day of banging helmets together and the passenger not being comfortable as they are sitting vertical all day with a backrest pad in their shoulder blades. Our passenger backrests are not limited by such restrictions and are placed further back on the bike to allow the passenger to lean back slightly in a more comfortable riding position while their back is supported and they are held in place by the design of the backrest pad.
